The United Doctors Front Association (UDFA) has approached the Supreme Court to intervene in an ongoing suo moto petition regarding the rape and murder of a Kolkata doctor. They are calling for the establishment of a Central Protection Act (CPA) Committee.

Filed through advocates Shashank Shekhar Jha and Anil Sharma, UDFA's intervention application highlights a growing climate of fear and insecurity among healthcare workers due to increasing violence. The plea underscores the urgent need for enhanced legal measures to protect medical professionals.

The Supreme Court has already set up a national task force to recommend safety measures for healthcare workers. UDFA is pushing for the swift enactment of legal protections, including the CPA Committee, to safeguard the rights and ensure the safety and security of healthcare personnel. Their prayers include immediate implementation of interim measures like the NDMC Health Professional Violence Act and the deployment of trained security forces at sensitive healthcare institutions.
