Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravneet Singh Bittu announced on Tuesday that he has been named the party's Rajya Sabha candidate from Rajasthan. Speaking to reporters in Jaipur, Bittu expressed his gratitude and commitment to serving the state with "dignity and pride."
The announcement was part of BJP's larger move on Tuesday to declare nine candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha by-elections. Bittu, who previously lost the Lok Sabha polls from Ludhiana, currently holds the position of Union Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries.
Following the announcement, Bittu met with Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma at his residence in Jaipur. The Chief Minister congratulated Bittu and discussed future development plans for the state. Rajya Sabha MP Radha Mohan Das Aggarwal, BJP State President Madan Rathore, and Law Minister Jogaram Patel were also present at the meeting. The by-elections for 12 Rajya Sabha seats, vacated largely due to MPs moving to the lower house, are scheduled for September 3.
