The Uttar Pradesh government is set to revolutionize renewable energy with a project to install solar power plants along both sides of the 296-km Bundelkhand Expressway.
The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) conducted a comprehensive study and reported that the expressway can support 450 MW solar power plants. This project has received official approval from the state government, as confirmed by Saurabh Kumar, vice-chairman of GEAPP, on Sunday.
Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi, along with Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh, engaged stakeholders and solar energy experts in Lucknow on August 9 to discuss the project's nuances. GEAPP is now assisting the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) in the bidding process, with an anticipated completion and commissioning timeline of 15 months. According to estimates, the project will cost Rs 1,800 crore, providing electricity at Rs 4 to 4.50 per unit and serving as a novel land use model for energy projects.
