Swift Action Ensues After Damage to Tungabhadra Dam Gate, Karnataka

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced on Monday that the gate of the Tungabhadra Dam has suffered damage. Efforts to repair it are already in progress, with two firms engaged for the task.
Shivakumar disclosed that the damage occurred at 10:30 PM, and he was informed an hour later. He promptly directed measures to secure the dam, including releasing water. The dam falls under central control, with Andhra Pradesh also on its committee. Coordination with central and state entities ensures that repairs are on schedule to be completed in three to four days.
In addition, to dam safety, Shivakumar has established a committee dedicated to overseeing all dams in Karnataka. Heavy rains have impacted low-lying areas and parts of Bengaluru. Shivakumar emphasized the importance of clearing construction dumps. Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah plans to visit the Tungabhadra Dam on Tuesday to address the issue personally.
