Doctors at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi held a protest on Saturday advocating for justice for the female post-graduate trainee (PGT) doctor, who was discovered dead inside the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in West Bengal. The demonstrators brandished posters and chanted demands for a CBI inquiry, voicing their concerns about campus safety for women.

Dr. Gautam, one of the protesting doctors, emphasized the urgency of preventing such incidents in the future. He pointed out the discrepancy between the nation's dialogues about women's empowerment and their lack of safety even within academic campuses. Highlighting the preliminary postmortem report that indicated sexual assault and murder, Dr. Gautam called for a swift government response to apprehend the culprits.

Echoing similar sentiments, another female protestor raised concerns about the delay in action, questioning her own safety. Dr. Ritik Ghosh criticized the West Bengal government for recurrent incidents of violence against doctors and expressed dissatisfaction with the reassurances from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He lamented the lack of adequate punishment for such heinous crimes, denouncing it as a national disgrace.

In a parallel move, Congress workers rallied for justice in Kolkata on Saturday. A candlelight march was also organized by students the previous evening in response to the tragic discovery of the trainee doctor's body.

The death of the second-year medical student has instigated a political upheaval in West Bengal. BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul and other leaders, including the Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, have demanded a CBI investigation and a re-postmortem by a central government hospital. Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar, along with Agnimitra Paul, visited the victim's residence, condemning the incident as a repeat of the infamous Nirbhaya case in Delhi and critiquing the TMC government's handling of law and order.
