Thousands of devotees thronged the Nagchandreshwar temple in Ujjain district's Mahakaleshwar premises on the auspicious occasion of Naag Panchami, held on Friday. The temple, which opens its doors only once a year for 24 hours, saw devotees arriving soon after midnight to offer prayers to Lord Nagchandreshwar.
Priest Vineet Giri explained that the temple houses a rare idol of Shiva-Parvati on Sheshnag, accompanied by Lord Ganesha and Kartikeya. Worship here is believed to please both Shiva and Parvati, helping devotees overcome the fear of snakes. In line with tradition, devotees also offered milk to the snake idol.
The local administration ensured a seamless experience for the visitors, implementing security measures and installing barricades. Collector Neeraj Kumar Singh reported that around 30,000 devotees had paid their respects by early morning, with arrangements in place for water, washrooms, and uninterrupted darshan.
