Security agencies are set to employ AI-based surveillance systems with advanced features at the Red Fort on Independence Day, according to sources. The new measures aim to bolster security in and around the historic venue.
A document obtained by ANI reveals that CCTVs equipped with video analytics will be installed at key locations. The system includes features such as vehicle number plate recognition, face detection, crowd estimation, and intrusion detection. 'We will also use AI-armed cameras to count the entry and exit of people,' an official stated.
The official further explained that the cameras could detect abandoned baggage and intrusive activities. Different zones will have customized alarm settings based on priority and sensitivity. Facial Recognition System (FRS) capabilities will allow for real-time and recorded video face matching, alerting the control room if any matches are found in the 'Watch List' database.
Detailing additional security measures, a senior government official disclosed that Number Plate Recognition (NPR) systems would be deployed this year, providing real-time 24x7 vehicle detection and recording. Delhi police plan to deploy over 700 CCTVs and more than 150 cameras with video analytics.
In total, more than 10,000 security personnel, including Delhi police and paramilitary jawans, will be stationed around Red Fort and other strategic locations. Central intelligence agencies and other security bodies held a recent meeting at Red Fort to review these measures, particularly in light of recent high-profile security incidents.
