Shortly after India faced a significant setback at the Paris Olympics due to the disqualification of Vinesh Phogat from the 50 kg women's wrestling final, political leaders rallied in support of the wrestler. They voiced that the entire nation stands proud of her achievements.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted that Phogat's disqualification has dashed the hopes of millions of Indians. He emphasized her illustrious career and assured that this setback is but a minor hurdle, expressing confidence in her inevitable comeback.

Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Sanjay Singh termed the disqualification 'unfortunate,' citing a minor weight discrepancy. He mentioned that the Government and sports authorities are probing the matter, with plans to contest the disqualification with international bodies.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami joined the chorus, praising Phogat's performance in the Olympics and expressing confidence in her resilient return.

Leaders like BJP MP Manoj Tiwari and NCP MP Praful Patel condemned the decision, questioning the International Olympic Committee's standards. Tiwari called for addressing the issue at multiple levels, while Patel urged for a robust counteraction from Indian sports authorities.

In the Lok Sabha, opposition MPs raised the matter, prompting Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal to announce an official statement. Opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra assured that India stands firmly by Phogat, with calls for challenging the decision.

AAP MP Harbhajan Singh expressed disappointment, noting the hardship Phogat endured. Despite the disqualification, Singh and others hailed her as a winner, hopeful for her triumphant return. The Indian Olympic contingent acknowledged her disqualification, appealing for privacy and focus on ongoing competitions.
