Himachal Pradesh is reeling from the devastation caused by recent flash floods and catastrophic cloudbursts. The aftermath has left the state in a severe crisis, highlighting an urgent need for effective disaster management and support. BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition, Jai Ram Thakur, emphasized the necessity for substantial changes in the region's development methods. He mentioned the Union government's assurance of full support to the disaster-struck state.

Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur revealed that he had meetings with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, and the Prime Minister in Delhi. 'They have assured us of their support and are actively monitoring the situation. The losses are significant, and we need to learn from last year's disaster, which claimed over 400 lives. We must avoid politicizing this tragedy,' Thakur stated. He noted the pressing need for a scientific approach to development, based on his observations from visiting various affected areas.

'This year, we face a similar flood disaster as last year, with 56 people reported missing across various regions. Specifically, 36 individuals are missing from the village of Samej, nine from Bagipul in Kullu, and ten from Drang Assembly in Mandi, where eight bodies have been recovered. Out of the 36 missing in Samej, six bodies have been found so far. The situation has created an atmosphere of tension and concern across the state,' Thakur added. He affirmed the BJP's commitment to providing the best possible assistance to the flood-hit areas.

Thakur underscored the collective efforts required to tackle the disaster, praising the role of social organizations. He criticized the lack of follow-through on previous disaster relief promises, saying, 'Last year's disaster relief package was announced, but no concrete action followed. Promised compensation for house damages and necessary actions have yet to materialize. The planned excavation of river courses was neglected, as people exploited silt and stones for profit without meaningful progress.' He drew attention to the risks faced by villages along riverbanks and called for serious measures to address them. 'I have consistently stressed the need for clarity regarding the distribution of Union government aid, which has not been equally allocated. I will address this issue in detail,' Thakur stated.

Thakur also criticized the current Congress government for shutting down essential services, including the Staff Selection Commission, and failing to fill vacant doctor positions, which he attributed to the Chief Minister's insensitive attitude. Addressing recent raids by central agencies like the ED, Thakur clarified, 'These raids should not be linked to my visits to Delhi. During my tenure, I never engaged in vengeful actions. These raids are routine and should not be connected to me,' he said.
