In a blistering critique of the Himachal Pradesh government, former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition, Jai Ram Thakur, has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. Thakur called for a fresh public mandate, alleging that the Congress-led government has failed to fulfill its promises over the past two years.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Thakur likened the government's performance to a satirical show, pointing to political, social, and economic instability in 2024. He criticized the government's decision-making, citing the controversial proposal to tax women for public toilet usage as an example of its absurd policies.
Thakur accused the government of reneging on its promise to provide 300 free electricity units, instead urging citizens to forgo subsidies. He questioned the practicality of this withdrawal, impacting around 26 lakh consumers, without clear revenue explanations. Furthermore, Thakur lambasted the government's neglect of the education sector, corruption in forestry, and dependency on central aid, while simultaneously accusing the Centre of neglect.
