India's total installed power generation capacity has achieved an impressive growth of around 80% over the past decade, reaching 4,46,190 MW (4.46 GW) as of June 2024, revealed the Parliament on Monday.

The capacity rose from 2,48,554 MW in March 2014 to its current level, as reported by Union Minister of State for Power, Shripad Naik. Coal-based power capacity has seen a significant increase from 1,39,663 MW in March 2014 to 2,10,969 MW in June 2024.

Additionally, the renewable energy sector's installed capacity expanded from 75,519 MW in March 2014 to 1,95,013 MW in June 2024. The government plans to boost coal-based capacity by an additional 80 GW by 2031-32. Naik also highlighted the advanced transmission infrastructure, emphasizing that India's grid is now one unified power market.
