Supported by the Chhattisgarh Government, a pioneering centre for manufacturing artificial limbs and accessories in the naxal-affected Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh is empowering differently-abled individuals with new opportunities. Located on the premises of Dantewada District Hospital, the centre has significantly assisted numerous individuals, including children, in navigating physical disabilities.

Established in 2017 through the initiative of the district collector and with backing from the state government, the centre has garnered a reputation across Chhattisgarh. Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Sanjay Basak noted that over 1400 people have received artificial limbs from the centre.

The facility attracts patients from various states, including Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh, according to Basak. Under the supervision of in-charge Anirudh, the centre takes precise measurements and customizes artificial limbs, also educating patients on their use.

CMHO Basak highlighted that the artificial limbs produced at the centre are both lightweight and durable, provided at no cost. With ongoing support from the state government and District Collector Mayank Chaturvedi, the centre continues to grow in popularity. Senior prosthetics and orthotics expert Anirudh Prasad pointed out that Dantewada now hosts the state's second such centre after Mana in Raipur. (ANI)
