The Sudarshan S-400 air defence missile system achieved a major success in a recent exercise, intercepting 80 per cent of enemy aircraft and forcing others to retreat, defense sources told ANI. The exercise was carried out by the Indian Air Force, showcasing its newly deployed squadron of the long-range air defence missile system.

The exercise demonstrated the integration of the S-400 into the Indian Air Force's operational framework, with real fighter aircraft testing the system's capabilities. Named Sudarshan by the Air Force, the missile system successfully targeted and 'shot down' 80 per cent of the simulated enemy offensive package.

The Indian Air Force has now fully integrated three squadrons of the system, with two more expected by 2026. India is urging Russia to expedite the delivery of these systems. The procurement deal for five S-400 squadrons was valued at over Rs 35,000 crore. The Air Force believes the S-400, along with indigenous MR-SAM and Akash systems, will significantly bolster its defense capabilities against threats.
