Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, accusing him of spreading lies and engaging in petty politics during Kargil Vijay Diwas. Kharge's comments followed PM Modi's address in Kargil, Ladakh, where he criticized opposition parties for opposing the 'Agnipath' scheme and politicizing national security issues.

In a post on X, Kharge expressed his disappointment, stating, 'It is very unfortunate and deplorable that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-ji is doing petty politics even on occasions like paying tribute to martyrs on Kargil Vijay Diwas. No Prime Minister has ever done this before. Modi ji is saying that his government implemented the Agnipath scheme at the behest of the Army; this is a blatant lie and an unforgivable insult to our valiant Armed Forces.'

Kharge went on to accuse the Modi government of acting contrary to the statements made by former Army Chief General MM Naravane regarding soldier recruitment and the implementation of the scheme across all three armed forces. He cited General Naravane's book, which reportedly mentions that the Agnipath scheme was shocking for the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Kharge also highlighted that retired officers have criticized the scheme, saying it endangers national security and fails to provide for Agniveers' families.
