Gujarat is actively contributing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's net-zero carbon emissions vision for 2070. The state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, is driving economic development through environmentally sustainable policies.

According to the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Gujarat saw an increase of nearly 200,000 PNG connections between August 2023 and February 2024. The total domestic PNG connections in the state rose from 3,078,162 in July 2023 to 3,253,175 by February 2024, marking a 5.6% rise.

Gujarat tops other states in the number of commercial and industrial PNG connections with 23,445 commercial and 5,786 industrial connections, substantially higher than other states.

Gujarat leads with 5,786 industrial PNG connections, followed by Uttar Pradesh (3,270), Haryana (2,259), Delhi (1,910), and Rajasthan (1,691). In commercial PNG connections, Gujarat is followed by Maharashtra (4,817), Delhi (3,965), Uttar Pradesh (2,644), and Assam (1,391).

State Energy and Petrochemicals Minister Kanubhai Desai highlighted Gujarat's ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability, initiated by PM Modi when he was the Chief Minister. Current CM Bhupendra Patel has continued these policies, leading to the recent dramatic increase of 175,000 household PNG connections.

Desai also emphasized Gujarat's leadership in commercial and industrial gas connections, illustrating the state's dedication to achieving the national goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2070. The PNG network spans all districts, and Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation's Gujarat Gas Limited has expanded its pipeline network by 158% in the last decade.

The expansion from 13,517 kilometers in 2014 to 34,832 kilometers in 2024 underscores the Gujarat government's focus on promoting natural gas for environmental conservation and renewable energy enhancement.
