Metro services in Kolkata faced significant disruptions on Wednesday after a man attempted suicide by jumping in front of an oncoming train. The incident was reported around 9:13 PM, according to the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Metro Rail Kolkata.

The incident took place at Kalighat metro station, and the injured man has been taken to SSKM Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Further details about the injured individual have not yet been disclosed.

This follows a tragic incident earlier this month at Bhayandar railway station near Mumbai, where a man and his father died by suicide by lying on the tracks and holding hands as a train approached. The police have identified the duo as Harish Mehta and Jai Mehta, residents of Nala Sopara, Maharashtra. Preliminary investigations suggest they took this step due to heavy financial losses in the stock market.
