In a significant development, 66% of taxpayers from the over 4 crore filers have opted for the new regime in income tax return (ITR) filing this season, revealed CBDT Chairman Ravi Agrawal on Wednesday.

Agrawal shared these insights in a post-Budget interview with PTI, highlighting the government's and direct tax administration's commitment to simplifying tax processes, including ITR filing and other Income Tax Department transactions.

He noted that simplification leads to easier compliance, evident from the increased number of ITR filings this year compared to the same period last year. As of now, the number of ITRs filed significantly outpaces last year's figures during the same timeframe.
