The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy rain in Mumbai and Thane this Tuesday. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) also forecasted heavy to very heavy rains in isolated areas of the city and its suburbs, accompanied by occasional winds reaching speeds of 50 to 60 km per hour.

The BMC further predicted high tides of 4.72 meters at 2:11 p.m. today and another high tide of 4.20 meters at 2:18 a.m. on Wednesday. The average rainfall recorded from July 23 to July 24 stands at 26.28 mm. Trains on the Central Railway line in Mumbai experienced a delay of 15 minutes due to a technical problem between the Matunga and Sion stations.

The technical issue caused a local train in the up direction to remain stranded for nearly 35 minutes from 7:45 a.m. to 8:20 a.m. on the fast line due to overhead wire complications. Subsequently, several trains were diverted to the slow line, resulting in timetable delays of up to 15 minutes. Heavy rainfall has been affecting Mumbai over the past few weeks.

In an advisory, Mumbai Police urged citizens to avoid coastal areas and only venture out if necessary, providing emergency contact number 100 for assistance. Similarly, the Mumbai civic authority recommended avoiding outdoor activities unless necessary, following the IMD's issuance of an orange alert predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall.

The IMD has also issued an orange alert for the Konkan region, covering Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts. As heavy rains continue, multiple roads in Mumbai are reported to be waterlogged, causing significant traffic disruptions. (ANI)
