Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has unveiled a strategic move to incorporate the private sector in boosting India's nuclear power sector, a step crucial for achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2070.

While presenting the Union Budget, Sitharaman detailed the government's plans to jointly develop Bharat Small Reactors and small modular reactors with private firms. This effort will be backed by a Rs 1 trillion research and development fund.

Additionally, Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh highlighted the Department of Atomic Energy's ongoing projects, which include the Bharat Small Reactor and Bharat Small Modular Reactor. These advancements are expected to significantly contribute to India's clean energy goals and climate change mitigation efforts.
