Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi unveiled the book titled 'The Collector's Mother,' authored by Bishnupada Sethi, IAS, at Lokseva Bhawan, according to a press release from the Chief Minister's office. The book, published by M/s BluOne Ink, New Delhi, was introduced on Monday.
As reported by the CMO, the book narrates the true story of an underprivileged woman whose indomitable spirit inspired her son to join the prestigious Indian Administrative Service (IAS). Born an unwanted girl child during the pre-independence era, she overcame numerous life-threatening hurdles. Set in a remote Odisha village, the story underscores themes of caste-based discrimination, inadequate law enforcement, entrenched power structures, underdeveloped education, food insecurity, drought, famine, healthcare deficits, labor migration, and social animosity.
Despite facing violent attacks and public humiliation alongside her husband, she remained resilient, protecting her family. Their perseverance paid off after three decades when a conscientious collector, Ashwini Vaishnav, helped restore their land through a protracted legal battle. During one of her court visits, she expressed to her son that becoming a collector, and thus aiding people like them, would be the pinnacle of his achievements. Although initially unimaginable, this spurred his journey from a struggling village to the esteemed Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in 1995. Her life, marked by dignity and a deep faith in God, provides a potent source of inspiration for students facing adversity.
