U.S. Senator Jerry Moran is pressing the chief executives of leading defense firms to guarantee that Spirit AeroSystems' operations will not be interrupted by Boeing's pending acquisition of the Kansas-based supplier.
Moran, a Kansas Republican and the ranking member of the Senate Commerce aviation subcommittee, told Reuters he had discussions with CEOs from Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Airbus, General Atomics, and Textron. His objective is to protect ongoing and future defense projects at the aero-structures giant.
"I want to make certain that the work continues in Kansas," Moran asserted, emphasizing the importance of not allowing the acquisition to hinder the nation's defense capabilities.
