The Indian Coast Guard (ICG), on July 21, 2024, conducted a risky evacuation of a critically ill Indian national from the Motor Tanker Zeal, registered in Gabon, approximately 20 km off the Mangrol coast in Gujarat. The patient reported a very low pulse and lower body numbness, necessitating immediate medical evacuation.

Responding swiftly, the ICG Air Enclave in Porbandar dispatched an Advanced Light Helicopter. Despite battling high-intensity winds and heavy rainfall, the helicopter crew precisely positioned the aircraft over the tanker, deploying a rescue basket to successfully evacuate the patient, who was then transported to Porbandar for medical attention.

This successful operation underscores the Indian Coast Guard's unwavering commitment to maritime safety and its readiness to tackle emergencies, even in the face of adverse weather conditions. (ANI)
