Train services have resumed on the affected downline route in Gonda, where the derailment of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express resulted in three fatalities and 30 injuries on Thursday, officials reported. The restoration of the route was completed on Friday.

The North Eastern Railway confirmed that the express train derailed near Gonda station between Motiganj and Jhilahi on July 18. Authorities announced that three individuals were killed and seven others sustained critical injuries.

'The final figures indicate three deaths and seven critically injured passengers,' said CPRO North Eastern Railway Pankaj Kumar. According to Kumar, four to five coaches from the front of the Dibrugarh Express derailed. Prompt response from a medical team and senior officials from the Lucknow division of NER helped manage the situation.

A high-level inquiry alongside the Commissioner of Railway Safety investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the derailment. (ANI)
