West Pakistan refugees expressed their gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central government for granting them citizenship after being denied for seven decades. The gesture was acknowledged during a meeting between the President of the 'West Pakistani Refugees (WPR) Association, Labha Ram Gandhi, and Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh in the national capital.

The refugees conveyed their heartfelt thanks to the government, under Modi's leadership, for unwavering support during their hardship and displacement. 'We are deeply touched by the kindness and generosity shown towards us, ensuring our well-being and integration into Indian society,' they said in a press release by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions.

Recalling decades of injustice, the association criticized previous governments for ignoring their plight and depriving them of voting rights for political gains. The association hailed the abrogation of Article 370 as a 'historic move' bringing justice to many unheard voices in Jammu and Kashmir, vowing grand celebrations on August 5 to mark the event's five-year anniversary.

On the sidelines, the association requested swift action on compensation and redressal of other grievances. MoS Singh assured them of timely redressal and appreciated their commitment to contributing positively to their adopted homeland. 'Thank you, Government of India, for embracing us with open arms and granting us a chance to begin anew,' the refugees stated enthusiastically.
