A 27-year-old private firm executive committed suicide allegedly due to physical and mental harassment by colleagues, leading Ghaziabad police to launch an investigation, officials said on Wednesday.

The Ghaziabad resident, who worked in Noida as a tele-caller for a third-party company servicing Axis Bank, had reportedly been harassed for five to six months, her family claimed. She took her life on July 12 by consuming poison, her brother reported to the local Nandgram police station, where an FIR was lodged under section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The brother stated that a note was found in her room detailing the harassment. He accused specific colleagues of driving his sister to suicide and mentioned their names in the FIR. The woman had narrated her ordeal to the family days before the event, he added.

Axis Bank expressed deep sorrow over the incident, clarifying that the victim was employed by Quess Corp. The bank noted a significant disagreement between the victim and another Quess Corp employee. The woman was under investigation and had received a show-cause notice on July 10, with disciplinary action following. Police are scrutinizing CCTV footage and questioning colleagues as part of the ongoing probe.

Axis Bank asserted its zero-tolerance policy for any code of conduct breaches and is cooperating with authorities.
