Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole on Wednesday sent a letter to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde concerning the encroachment at Vishalgad Fort in Kolhapur, stating that mob rule is inappropriate for Maharashtra and its values. Patole described the Vishalgad violence as unfortunate and alarming.

Patole highlighted the severity of the incident, saying, "In the name of encroachment, people of the same religion were attacked in Gajapur village, causing significant damage to homes, shops, and properties. This has disrupted social harmony, primarily for political gain, which is disturbing and alarming." He emphasized Maharashtra's legacy of social reform and criticized current leaders for instigating Hindu-Muslim tensions for electoral benefit.

"The encroachments on Vishalgad should be removed, but the recent violence, including a July 14 attack on homes in Gajapur, reflects badly on humanity," Patole added. He condemned Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis's statements, suggesting they support the rioters. Patole called for immediate government aid for affected Gajapur residents and a thorough investigation into the violence. He urged the government to prioritize social harmony and peace.
