The catastrophic floods in Assam have now claimed the lives of 93 individuals, with two more fatalities reported in Karimganj district within the last 24 hours, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). In the latest flood report, ASDMA identified the victims as including a child, increasing the death toll to 93.

Despite a slight improvement in the flood situation as waters recede in several regions, nearly 5.98 lakh people across 18 districts, including Cachar, Nalbari, Kamrup, and others, continue to suffer from the deluge. ASDMA noted that Cachar district alone has 115,900 affected residents, followed by significant numbers in Dhubri, Nagaon, and Goalpara among other areas.

Furthermore, 1,342 villages under 52 revenue circles remain submerged, and the floodwaters have inundated 25,367.61 hectares of crop land. Major rivers such as the Brahmaputra and Burhidihing are still flowing above danger levels at several points including Neamatighat, Tezpur, and Dhubri.

Relief efforts are in full swing with over 58,000 people taking refuge in 172 relief camps across 13 districts. The disaster has also impacted approximately 283,712 domestic animals, with 232 animals washed away and more than 6,800 homes damaged, according to ASDMA.

The famous Kaziranga National Park has been hit hard, resulting in the deaths of 196 animals, including 10 rhinos. The park's report detailed the loss of various species and highlighted ongoing rescue operations that have saved 143 animals so far. Despite the efforts, the park continues to contend with submerged forest camps.
