The Indira Gandhi International Airport Police in New Delhi have undertaken a significant operation to combat visa and passport fraud, leading to the apprehension of 108 fraudulent agents. This marks a notable rise from the 51 arrests made during the same period in 2023.
According to Delhi Police data, these arrests have been carried out nationwide, including in Punjab, Gujarat, Haryana, Maharashtra, and West Bengal. The police are now focusing on holding agents accountable, shifting the spotlight away from passengers who may unknowingly become involved in illegal immigration schemes.
This strategic shift has led to substantial success in both detection and apprehension efforts. In 2024 alone, the police have apprehended agents from older and ongoing cases and have issued 76 Look Out Circulars for untraceable agents. The comprehensive approach includes public awareness campaigns to prevent individuals from falling prey to fraudulent schemes.
