Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Sunday inaugurated a new building for the Kheda District Central Cooperative Bank Limited (KDCC) in Gujarat's Kheda district via video conferencing.

Addressing the bank's 76th Annual General Meeting (AGM), Shah urged individuals associated with cooperative institutions to open accounts with District Cooperative Banks as part of the 'Cooperation Amongst Cooperatives' initiative, according to a PIB release.

Shah remarked that Kheda is historically significant as the starting point of Amul under Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's guidance, exemplifying 'sahkaar se samriddhi' (Prosperity through Cooperation). 'Till recently, there was talk of KDCC Bank's closure, but today, the bank has inaugurated a new 36,000 square feet building costing Rs 18.70 crore,' he noted.

The minister highlighted that KDCC Bank has become the first in Gujarat's cooperative sector to introduce loan management, document management systems, and tablet banking. He praised KDCC Bank for its profitability and reserve growth despite earlier apprehensions about its future.

Shah also revealed that pilot projects under the 'Cooperation Amongst Cooperatives' initiative are underway in Banaskantha and Panchmahal. He emphasized the need for stronger Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) to bolster the cooperative banking sector.
