John Krasinski is set to make his grand return to the stage, taking on the lead role in 'Angry Alan' when it premieres Off-Broadway this June, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Written by Penelope Skinner, this dark comedy will be the inaugural production at the newly named Studio Seaview, previously known as the Tony Kiser Theatre.
Directed by Sam Gold, acclaimed for his work on 'An Enemy of the People' and 'Romeo + Juliet', 'Angry Alan' will commence performances on May 23 with its official debut on June 11, running for a scheduled 10 weeks. The play first gained traction at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2018, with subsequent performances in London and other international cities. The narrative centers around Roger, a man finding solace in an online activist community, blaming feminism for contemporary male struggles, co-created by Donald Sage Mackay.
Best known for 'The Office', 'A Quiet Place', and his latest film 'IF', Krasinski is no stranger to the theater. His last Off-Broadway appearance was in 2016's 'Dry Powder', sharing the stage with Claire Danes and Hank Azaria. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Krasinski expressed his enthusiasm about his impending stage return, stating, "I couldn't be more excited to be returning to Off-Broadway, and to be surrounded by such a force of talent in Penny and Sam is quite literally a dream scenario."
