On Tuesday, Trinamool Congress member June Maliah called for the government to adopt a measured approach in consultations on a regulatory framework for OTT platforms. She emphasized the need to safeguard creative independence, freedom of expression, and maintain ease of doing business within the digital sector.
During the Zero Hour in Lok Sabha, Maliah underscored the importance of responsible content dissemination while warning against excessive regulation that could stifle innovation and consumer choice. She urged clarity on the objectives of these consultations and stressed the importance of a balanced approach that protects creative freedom and considers legitimate concerns.
Maliah further appealed for an inclusive engagement with stakeholders, including content creators, digital platforms, and consumer rights groups, to ensure any regulatory framework does not adversely impact India's burgeoning digital economy.
