The Maharashtra legislative assembly unanimously passed a resolution on Monday, calling on the Centre to award Bharat Ratna, the nation's highest civilian honor, posthumously to social reformers Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule.
The resolution, presented by Minister Jaykumar Raval, received strong backing from NCP MLA Chhagan Bhujbal and Congress's Vijay Wadetiwar, showcasing cross-party support.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasized the significance of the 'Mahatma' title attributed to Phule, arguing that Bharat Ratna would acknowledge their pivotal role in social reform and education.
