Funeral proceedings for former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away at the age of 100, are set to commence in Georgia and extend to Washington, D.C., from January 4 through January 9. A series of ceremonies will honor Carter's enduring legacy and service.
The state funeral will initiate on January 4 with the Carter family arriving at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia. Carter's remains, escorted by Secret Service agents, will be taken to his hometown of Plains and then to Atlanta for further tributes.
In Washington, D.C., the former president will lie in state at the U.S. Capitol, where members of Congress and the public may pay their respects. Ceremonies will conclude with a national funeral service at Washington National Cathedral, followed by a private family interment in Plains, Georgia.
