Renowned former England striker, Gary Lineker, is set to step down from his iconic role on 'Match of the Day,' the BBC's flagship soccer program, at the end of this season. A staple of the show for 25 seasons, Lineker's charismatic presence will be missed by millions.
Although leaving 'MOTD', Lineker has confirmed he will extend his contract to host the BBC's coverage of the FA Cup and the 2026 World Cup. BBC Sport Director Alex Kay-Jelski expressed gratitude for Lineker's contributions, acknowledging his significant impact throughout the years.
Lineker, who earns an annual salary of 1.35 million pounds ($1.7 million), has maintained his popularity despite political controversies. He will continue to focus on his thriving podcast production company, co-hosting shows like 'The Rest is Politics' and 'The Rest is Football' with popular figures Alan Shearer and Micah Richards.
