Diwali festivities ignited in the coastal state of Goa following the traditional burning of Narakasur demon effigies early Thursday. These effigies, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil, were paraded before being set ablaze. Artists, representing Lord Krishna, enacted the symbolic slaying of Narakasur during numerous competitions around the state, including in towns like Margao, Vasco, and Ponda.

The celebrations began on Wednesday night with thousands of participants, continuing into the morning hours of Thursday. Governor of Goa, P S Sreedharan Pillai, extended his Diwali greetings, highlighting the festival's importance in promoting unity and goodwill across diverse communities regardless of caste, creed, or religion. He emphasized the festival's role in fostering national integration and unity.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant also conveyed his greetings, encouraging citizens to embrace the festival's spirit of harmony and togetherness. He urged people to support local businesses, aligning with the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Sawant's message focused on building peaceful, united societies and creating lasting memories during Diwali.
