The Karnataka High Court has reserved its order on a significant application by Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeep Srinivas seeking interim bail on medical grounds. The actor requires spine surgery and has been implicated in the Renukaswamy case, a chilling murder involving a 33-year-old Chitradurga resident with the victim's remains found in Bengaluru's Kamakshipalya on June 9.
As the court prepares to pronounce its decision on Wednesday, scrutiny has increased following Darshan's earlier transfer to Bellary Jail. This move came after a photograph surfaced of him with a notorious rowdy-sheeter in the Parappana Agrahara Central Jail, raising questions about his treatment and privileges in custody.
Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda firmly stated, "If this person is being given extra privileges, it is wrong." In a consequential action, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah ordered the suspension of seven prison officials, reflecting the severity of the issue that has stirred public and political attention in the state.
