In a tragic incident, over 150 people were injured during a fireworks mishap at Veerarkavu Temple near Neeleswaram, authorities confirmed. The accident transpired late Monday night during a temple festival, with victims rushed to hospitals in Kasargod, Kannur, and Mangaluru.

Speaking on Tuesday, the District Collector revealed that ten individuals sustained serious injuries, suffering burns covering 80 percent of their bodies. The accident, which is being probed by officials, seems to have resulted from fire breaking out at a nearby fireworks storage facility.

Preliminary investigations indicated safety lapses, with necessary distance regulations between storage and fireworks not maintained, nor proper permissions obtained. The incident underscores the urgent need for stringent adherence to safety protocols at public events.
