A couple lost their lives to asphyxiation following a fire accident involving firecrackers at their home, law enforcement disclosed on Tuesday.
The incident unfolded late on Monday night as they prepared for the Diwali festival. A spark from the gas stove ignited the box of firecrackers, causing a spread of smoke throughout their two-room residence, resulting in the couple's tragic death from suffocation, according to initial police investigations.
A third family member, a young girl, sustained severe asphyxiation injuries and remains hospitalized in critical condition. The victims were in their mid-50s, noted an officer from Rein Bazar police station. An investigation is ongoing.
