In New Delhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed claims that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's legacy was historically undermined, as he was long deprived of the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honor, which he received posthumously in 1991.
At a 'Run for Unity' event, Shah lauded Patel's pivotal role in merging over 550 princely states into India, unifying the nation. Today's run precedes Patel's birth anniversary and marks Dhanteras, part of National Unity Day celebrations initiated by PM Modi in 2014.
Shah announced a two-year nationwide celebration for Patel's 150th birth anniversary, acknowledging his monumental contributions to India's unity. Programs will reflect on Patel's achievements, underlining the aim to transform India into a developed nation by 2047.
