The Kerala government has expressed strong opposition to a recent gazette notification from the Central government, which imposes stringent conditions on fireworks that could disrupt the iconic Thrissur Pooram festival.
State Revenue Minister K Rajan, in a letter to Prime Minister Modi, conveyed his discontent, highlighting how these rules, issued by the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry, have disappointed festival enthusiasts. Fireworks, he notes, are vital to the celebration.
Rajan is urging the Prime Minister to intervene and amend the rules, which include conditions about distances that he argues are illogical and make the traditional fireworks display practically impossible.
