Omar Abdullah Leads the Charge: Kashmir's First International Marathon

On Sunday, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah grabbed the spotlight by running a half marathon in the valley's inaugural international athletic event. Nearly 2000 athletes from various parts of India and abroad participated in the marathon.
Accompanied by Bollywood star Suniel Shetty at the flag-off ceremony, Abdullah praised the organizers for orchestrating such an impressive event. The race featured elite runners from India, Asian gold medallists, and top athletes from Europe and Africa.
Abdullah, a fitness enthusiast, expressed hope for the marathon to become a significant global event. He thanked the people of Srinagar for their support and credited running with others for his accomplishment of completing the 21-kilometre run.
Organized by the Department of Tourism, the marathon aimed to demonstrate the improved situation in the valley and position Kashmir as a tourist-friendly region. Tourism Director Raja Yaqoob highlighted the event's role in promoting peace and attracting global visitors.
Suniel Shetty praised the event's organization and the scenic beauty of Kashmir, calling it a paradise for marathon lovers.
