Five Russian mountaineers tragically lost their lives on Mount Dhaulagiri, Nepal's seventh highest peak, after appearing to slip and fall during their ascent, an expedition organiser reported on Tuesday.

The climbers, who had ventured onto the 8,167-metre high mountain during Nepal's autumn climbing season, had been missing since Sunday. Their bodies were spotted by a rescue helicopter on Tuesday, according to Pemba Jangbu Sherpa from Kathmandu's I AM Trekking and Expeditions.

With radio contact lost since Sunday, two of the climbers had successfully reached the summit while the others had turned back. Plans to retrieve the bodies from the mountain, which require substantial planning and resources, remain undecided.
