Baansera Park, located along the Yamuna River, is preparing to harvest its inaugural crop of Lakadong turmeric, renowned for its high curcumin content and medicinal properties, officials from Raj Niwas confirmed on Wednesday. The turmeric, sourced from Meghalaya, may soon be available for Delhi residents through sales by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA).

The initiative, spearheaded by Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, saw the planting of Lakadong turmeric beneath dense bamboo groves spread over two acres at Baansera, a park known for its sustainability theme. This follows successful trials of various other plants around Delhi, including chandan, chinar, and cherry blossom.

Horticulture experts monitoring the project noted that the turmeric, which is highly sought after globally for its quality, has shown promising growth. With an 80 percent survival rate from the five quintals of seeds planted in June, the DDA is optimistic about scaling up cultivation across different locations in Delhi.
