Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy is set to return as the iconic Tommy Shelby in the 'Peaky Blinders' film, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed. The Birmingham gangster drama, created by Steven Knight, will be directed by Tom Harper. Set a few years post-series finale, the movie has officially started production, according to an announcement by the streaming giant on Monday.

'Peaky Blinders,' which spanned six seasons, featured Murphy alongside Paul Anderson, Helen McCrory, Tom Hardy, and Joe Cole. Confirmed film cast members include Barry Keoghan from 'Saltburn' and Rebecca Ferguson from 'Dune.' The announcement triumphantly declared, 'By order of the Peaky Blinders, Tommy Shelby is back. Cillian Murphy and Steven Knight are reunited on set as production officially starts on the upcoming Netflix film.'

Murphy expressed enthusiasm, stating, 'This is one for the fans.' The television series concluded with its sixth season in 2022, prior to Murphy's Academy Award-winning role in Christopher Nolan's 'Oppenheimer.' Additionally, Murphy's forthcoming project, 'Small Things Like These,' focusing on Ireland's church's abusive workhouses for unwed mothers, is set for release on November 1 in the U.K. and November 8 in the U.S., The Hollywood Reporter noted.
