Mithun Chakraborty, the veteran actor celebrated for iconic roles in 'Disco Dancer' and 'Mrigayaa', has been awarded the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India's highest honor in cinema. Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the accolade on X, giving a nod to Chakraborty's unparalleled contributions to Indian cinema.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Chakraborty, calling him a 'cultural icon' admired across generations. The 74-year-old actor reflected on his journey, sharing memories of his early struggles in Mumbai. 'I dedicate this award to my family and fans worldwide,' he said, expressing his heartfelt gratitude.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah and filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri also extended their congratulations. The award will be presented during the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on October 8, 2024. Chakraborty's illustrious career spans decades, including a tenure as a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament and a stint as a judge on 'Dance India Dance.'
