The Maharashtra government on Friday announced the rescheduling of the official Eid-e-Milad holiday in Mumbai district from September 16 to September 18.
The change was made because Anant Chaturdashi, the final day of the Ganesh festival, falls on September 17. Consequently, the local Muslim community has opted to take out its Eid processions on September 18, leading to the holiday's rescheduling, according to an official release.
Furthermore, local collectors have been authorized to make similar holiday adjustments in other districts based on local circumstances.
