David Beckham and former England coach Roy Hodgson were among the soccer dignitaries attending Sven-Goran Eriksson's funeral on Friday in Torsby, Sweden. Eriksson's coffin, adorned with white flowers and surrounded by candles, was the focal point of the 600-seat Fryksande church.

'It is a day of grief but also a day of thankfulness,' said the priest, Ingela Alvskog. Beckham, who flew in by private jet, greeted Eriksson's 95-year-old father and other family members with hugs before the ceremony began. Eriksson, who became England's first foreign-born coach and led the national team from 2001-2006, passed away at 76 from pancreatic cancer.

Some 200 seats in the neo-Gothic church were reserved for family, friends, and players, with the rest open to the public. The ceremony, marked by somber and later upbeat music, was broadcast live on Swedish media. The local club, Torsby IF, fondly remembered Eriksson for his humility and kindness.
