Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Thursday expressed her condolences over the death of CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, highlighting his unwavering commitment to protecting India's diversity and championing secularism.
Yechury, who passed away at AIIMS on Thursday at the age of 72 after a prolonged illness, had been critically ill and on respiratory support in his final days.
'I am deeply saddened by Sitaram Yechury's passing. We worked closely from 2004 to 2008, forming a lasting friendship,' Gandhi said in a statement, emphasizing Yechury's dedication to democratic and constitutional values during his twelve-year parliamentary career and his pivotal roles in UPA-1 and the INDIA group.
