Seven people lost their lives when a wall of a medieval-era fort collapsed amid heavy rains in Madhya Pradesh's Datia town on Thursday.
The incident occurred at around 4 am in the Khalkapura area, officials said. Nine people were trapped in an adjacent house; seven died while two were rescued, said Datia District Collector Sandeep Makin.
The 400-year-old fort, known as Rajgarh, has a tragic history of collapsing under extreme weather conditions. The State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF) team conducted a rescue operation lasting over six hours. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced Rs 4 lakh in financial aid for each victim's family, while local leaders criticized the administration's slow response.
