A five-day intensive programme to bolster the leadership, management, and governance abilities of elected representatives and functionaries of Panchayati Raj Institutions has commenced in Jammu, according to an official statement.

The residential Management Development Programme (MDP) is hosted by the Indian Institute of Management, Jammu, in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj. The programme, which runs until September 13, includes 32 participants from 11 states and Union Territories.

According to a spokesperson from IIM-Jammu, the MDP aims to empower PRI leaders, including district panchayat presidents and vice presidents, with essential knowledge and tools for effective community leadership. The five-day course covers vital topics such as leadership, management and ethics, resource mobilisation, rural innovation, and the integration of Artificial Intelligence in governance.

In the inaugural session, participants from diverse regions such as Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Jammu and Kashmir, among others, engaged in discussions about governance challenges, expectations, and opportunities for skill enhancement. The curriculum includes expert-led sessions, case studies, and interactive discussions designed to promote collaborative governance and effective local administration.

Expectations are that participants will return to their communities equipped with enhanced capabilities to improve services and the quality of life for rural constituents.
